Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawai’i really does have weather that can best be described as eternal springtime. We just got back from a July trip (Thanks Darcy at SFX!) and everyday presented us with a comfortable 80 degrees, dropping to a very pleasant 74 degrees at night. There was more humidity in the early afternoons but much less than we expected. We were never uncomfortable. Even with a few showers here and there this island has go-do-it weather anyway you look at it!
We were very pleased with the accommodations at the Wyndham Kona Resort. Our upstairs 2 bedroom unit was clean, comfortable and very nicely decorated. It really set the mood for our entire trip! With a fantastic balcony that easily fit 6, we enjoyed relaxing at the table for meals, board games and just chillaxing. The modern gas grills, sprinkled generously around the property, made it easy and fun to barbecue. While chatting with other guests while we all got our grilling done, we even got some good tips on cool things to do on the island.
Darcy at SFX really gave us a good description of the resort, the amenities, and what to expect. She also initially helped us with what our travel destination options were for the time period we wanted to vacation. She was friendly and helped us get the most out of our exchange.
With just an 8 day stay and so much to do on this island, believe it or not, after 2 snorkeling adventures , half a day tasting Kona coffee at 4 different growers (while signing up for coffee clubs), one day driving all around the island with stops at different beaches and tasting local goodies, a 4 hour trip to the volcanoes (which is just a sneak peak), renting Harleys one day and cruising up north, enjoying some of the local restaurants and shopping there was really only one day left to chill by the pool….there is still so much to experience!
The good news is I’ve noticed there have been Hawaii weeks on the SFX Sell-Off List so the Big Island is definitely in our sites for one more time this year! Thank you SFX for making it easy to vacation to great places!
Special Note: The locals at every beach and snorkel spot we went to were very helpful and gave us lots of inside information about their environment. They really added to our overall experience and got us close to what was going on and what to look for. These local islanders were the friendliest we have found on any island we have visited.
